For applications in motion analysis (issues in bionics, sports medicine, biomechanics) and for the analysis of process malfunctions (tool breakage, malfunctions in handling systems, malfunctions in packaging machines), frame rates are required that are now increasingly met by high-speed standard CMOS cameras used in industrial image processing. Due to transmission distances and the resulting flexibility, industrial cameras with a standard 10GigE interface are preferred; for recording systems that are twice as fast, cameras with a 10GigE interface and link aggregation are used in conjunction with recording systems. For the application areas described, Photonfocus has developed Double-Rate (DR) camera technology, which is based entirely on the standard implementation of the 10GigE interface and the standard software protocols GenICam and GigEVision, but provides nearly twice the bandwidth. This allows standard tools and libraries from the field of industrial image processing to be used for implementing high-speed image acquisition systems.
