Nut shells in muesli, small stones in whole-grain bread, or rot in fruits and vegetables: Such contaminants and defects must be detected and sorted out during food production before they end up in the packaging or reach the consumer. Solutions using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) and SWIR technology are particularly well-suited. This high-resolution image data can detect contaminants such as foreign objects, damage, fungi, and spores that are not visible to the naked eye or in conventional visible-light images.
