For greater food safety: Quality control with embedded vision


Nut shells in muesli, small stones in whole-grain bread, or rot in fruits and vegetables: Such contaminants and defects must be detected and sorted out during food production before they end up in the packaging or reach the consumer. This is where Photonfocus’s embedded vision systems come in. They can be fully automated and integrated into the production line or perform quality control as standalone applications with onboard data processing.

Food quality control

Solutions using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) and SWIR technology are particularly well-suited. This high-resolution image data can detect contaminants such as foreign objects, damage, fungi, and spores that are not visible to the naked eye or in conventional visible-light images. This ensures higher product quality and a longer shelf life when damaged or contaminated food is separated from undamaged goods at an early stage.
