Sorting & classifying with image processing
Fully automated sorting and classification systems enable high productivity and cost-effectiveness in food production. These systems utilize embedded vision technology capable of distinguishing size, shape, different varieties, and quality grades at extremely high speeds. Depending on the application, the inspection systems use 2D or 3D imaging and employ laser triangulation to determine volume and weight, and from this data, calculate packaging units or the optimal packing density in transport containers.

Optimal results are achieved when 2D/3D images and image data in the short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectrum are captured. This allows , for example, colors and shapes to be analyzed together with pixel-level precision. Another advantage of SWIR images is that analyzing the infrared spectrum allows for the identification of impurities, spores, or incipient rot that are difficult or impossible to detect with the naked eye.
