Perfectly divided: Portioning with embedded vision
When portioning fish, meat, and other foods, variations and irregularities in size and shape must be taken into account. To this end, Photonfocus’s embedded vision systems measure the volume of the food using laser triangulation, thereby providing the data needed to calculate the weight and, if necessary, the portioning cuts. Upon request , this calculation can be performed at extremely high speeds directly on the camera systems. Volume measurement can also be used to determine filling quantities in natural containers, such as when filling pastries.

For optimal results in portioning using image processing, Photonfocus SWIR sensors and embedded vision systems based on them can also be used. They analyze infrared radiation and thus provide significantly greater data depth than when using visible light. Fish and meat, for example, can be classified and portioned based on their proportions of lean muscle meat, fat, and bone.
